Dr Clare Bale PhD
|
Clare is a Registered General Nurse, has a BA (Hons) in Communication Studies, a Masters and a PhD in Public Health and trained as a master facilitator for The Department of Health. She has held a number of Senior NHS Management Roles including Modernisation Manager and Public Health Principal (Sexual Health and Teenage Pregnancy for a population of 750,000). Her research focuses on young people’s use of media and their well-being including sexting, sexualisation and pornography.
Clare is a founding member of Sense About Sex; a group of therapists, researchers, sex educators, writers and activists working to get good quality information about sex and sexuality out to the public and media. And also co editor of The Sexualization Report a Wellcome Institute funded project dealing with the current state of sex, sexuality and ‘sexualization’ in the UK. She was co-producer of Bad Sex Media Bingo; an educational tool which highlights the many features of bad media reporting of sex and sexuality which has proven to be a very effective and easy-to-use starting point for media producers and journalists who are keen to avoid falling into the most common traps when talking about sex and sexuality. Clare and her team provide the clinical expertise behind Channel 4’s Embarrassing Bodies My Risk Checker App. A member of the British Association of Sexual Health and HIV, The Obscenity Research Network and The British Sociological Association, Clare has authored a number of peer review journal articles and is a peer reviewer for the Journals Sex Education and Porn Studies. Clare is currently contributing to a number of international research studies and edited book collections. She has appeared on BBC documentaries ranging from the Psychology of Car Boots Sales to Book Clubs, Channel 4s Newsnight and is regularly asked to contribute to articles about sex and sexuality for publications such as The Guardian and The Independent. |
Christopher Hall, CPFA |
Christopher is an experienced finance professional, having worked for 28 years in the NHS in various organisations across the country. He was Finance Director of a successful NHS Foundation Trust for over 9 years, before moving into the world of interim management and consultancy.
He has played leading roles in financial turnaround and in a successful application to become a first-wave NHS Foundation Trust, along with leading the financial planning for a successful £350M PFI project to build a new general hospital, mental health facility and community care centre. Christopher has also led the business planning work to secure a range of important service developments, including renal dialysis, radiotherapy, multi-organ retrieval and brachytherapy. Christopher has undertaken a variety of interim management roles including two large teaching hospitals, an acute service review of five hospitals across the SE Midlands sub-region, and a review of financial management in the Channel Islands. Christopher is a Chartered Public Finance Accountant, with an honours degree in English from the University of York. He has undertaken further professional studies, including a course with INSEAD, and is currently studying for a postgraduate diploma. |
Cathy Moran

Cathy is an experienced clinical leader at executive level with extensive operational knowledge and skills derived from working across boundaries, leading teams and implementing change. She has managed primary care, community and acute hospital services.
Her portfolio includes taking the lead at executive level for clinical governance, safeguarding, as well as operational delivery. She has transformed services to increase car out of hospital and driven improvements in quality of care. Cathy has been a Modern Matron for A&E and also managed acute hospital services, she therefore brings an understanding of the challenges and interfaces between the different sectors from a practical perspective. Cathy holds current NMC registration and maintains a high level of clinical skills through continuous professional development and experience. |
Huw Jones
|
Huw has worked in a number of senior policy and operational positions for over 20 years including periods at the NHS Modernisation Agency and the well-respected King’s Fund.
As a director in the NHS Huw was responsible for commissioning mental health and learning disability services, and chaired the local emergency care planning systems. He was a very early proponent of integration and developed a comprehensive multi agency intermediate care service by commissioning services from the voluntary, community, independent and statutory sectors. Huw has a keen interest in the use of telehealth and telecare as enablers of increased independence. Huw’s current work focuses on how to increase the use of telehealth and telecare. He is a leader in a major research study with the Universities of Leeds and Sheffield and is working with the Advanced Digital Institute on a scheme funded by the Technology Strategy Board. Recent consulting studies have included a detailed service review of intermediate care, the development of reablement services, development work with a number of social sector organisations in how to work with new clinical commissioning groups and an interoperability study for a complex health and social care economy. |
Kate Pym |
Kate is an accredited trainer with the Institute of Leadership and Management, a registered and certificated DiSC Trainer, and an Accredited Healthcare Manager with the Institute of Healthcare Management.
Before establishing herself as an independent consultant, Kate worked for 16 years in the Pharmaceutical and Private Health and Social Care Industry. She was a prize winning performer in Blue Chip and FTSE 250 companies including AstraZeneca, Baxter Healthcare and Mitie Group PLC. Her experience covers: sales, leadership, market access, strategic management, service redesign and successful responses to tenders. Her innovative service designs include “Keep Safe, Stay Well” integrated service for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. Kate has worked with senior NHS and Social Care commissioners and stakeholders across the UK, in a variety of services including dialysis, oncology and community care. Kate’s key area of interest is improving commercial awareness and business acumen of NHS and Third Sector staff enabling them to be more confident and competitive in maintaining and retendering existing contracts and bidding for new work. |
